DOUGLAS SULAICA ARRIAGA

June 30, 1952 - May 3, 2023, Douglas Sulaica Arriaga, age 70 was welcomed into heaven by his darling wife, Gloria Cantu Arriaga, and the lord. As he transitioned to a higher place, he is now surrounded by many loved ones as he watches over us in a heavenly mansion. Douglas was born June 30, 1952 to Jesse and Josephine Arriaga in San Antonio, TX, a city he knew and loved as home. Douglas was an only child, devoted son and friend to his many cousins.

Douglas will always be remembered as a devoted husband and exceptional daddy, he was described by many as kind, caring, loving and very generous. He was a proud graduate of Harlandale, class of 1971. March of 1976, while attending UTSA, Douglas met the love of his life, Gloria. They continued to date over the next two years. On April 15, 1978, Douglas was united in holy matrimony to Gloria at Saint Margaret's Catholic Church. Douglas remained faithful to his wife, and recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They were lifetime companions and will forever be each other's soulmates in heaven. Douglas and Gloria were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Antoinette and Victoria Arriaga.
Douglas spent his entire life devoted to his daughters happiness. When they were younger he would take them to the San Antonio Zoo, on train rides, Splashtown, and Seaworld. He was always there in his own way making sure they were loved and always taken care of. As his daughters grew older, he had the honor of giving them away at their weddings, being present at his grandchildren's events and simply enjoying a good meal with his family.
Douglas spent 40 years in risk control insurance, where he was known by many for being one of the best in his industry. He was a devout catholic and shared his time and generosity with St. Johns the Evangelist Church. He participated as a lector and Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years, he was a member of the church's financial committee, the parish council, Knights of Columbus and more recently the Legions of Mary. His legacy will truly be remembered in his contribution to build and fund the Adoration Chapel in memory of his wife. He wanted to create a sanctuary for his brothers and sisters to come and be close to God, a place of refuge. For his contributions he was awarded the Lumen Gentium Award, he truly was a pillar in the Catholic Church Community and will be missed.
Douglas, was a creature of habit and a man of great taste. He frequented his many favorite restaurants including Paesanos, Mi Tierra and La Fonda on Main. There he learned the many names of staff members as they all grew to love and appreciate his kind heart and beautiful smile. This world was touched by him in so many ways that his legacy will continue to live through all he has impacted and encountered.
Douglas is survived by his adoring daughters, Antoinette McCune and husband Jacob and Victoria Downing and husband Christopher; grandchildren, Annalise, Alexander, Abigail, Aurelia and Michael, his loving cousins, extended family and many friends.
